I’ll be deep in the cold had ground before I recognize the Chiefs as the top team again. Rodgers and Brady #RetireBitch 2022.

Well, folks, it was one of the best weekends of football I (and many others) can remember. It is somewhat soured by its ending, but still, what a ride!

Wild Card week the lower amount of football is a relief. It’s still nice, but I’m already feeling that weird itch. Football is weird.

Still showing the whole league because even the dead teams are changing. Houston gets rid of a coach who led them to 4 more wins than the roster deserved. Dallas and Pittsburgh embarrassed themselves and took their rightful place below several non-playoff teams. The Raiders move into the top 10 in a loss, but I don’t know whether to move them down or up if they abandon Carr or Bisaccia.

Hot take: I think the function of the 7 seed is less about having compelling 7/2 matchups and more about having better 6/3 and 5/4 matchups. Still not working though.

Monday Night playoff football?… Okay….

Again no huge moves, and Green Bay keeps top spot despite losing because it was Jordan Love hours. However, Arizona leaves the top 10 and the Giants go into the offseason dead last, seeing as they have no real path to getting better, as opposed to the Jags, Jets, and Lions (though maybe not the Panthers and Texans). The steelers will play next week but that doesn’t make them better than the Chargers, Saints, and Colts.

AFC NORTH
Perhaps the most confusing division result, overall, when considering how this season started. And yet, doesn’t it make sense on the larger scale that Roethlisberger dcsked his way into the playoffs one last time, and that the Browns couldn’t sustain success, and that the Ravens’ multitude of injuries finally caught up to them? The Bengals though, that came out of nowhere.

AFC SOUTH
The Texans and Jaguars were as shit as expected — though I think at the beginning of the season a lot of people would have thought the Jags were the one with a promising roster that could be surprisingly competent if not very prolific. I think we have to accept that Vrabel is just a good head coach and the reason the Titans are good. The Colts blew it so hard, one imagines how things could have turned out if they didn’t start the season with a clandestine 0-5 streak.

AFC EAST
I guess the Pats are back but not all the way? Probably means they’ll win the Super Bowl next year.

AFC WEST
I’m not bitter.

NFC NORTH
It would be just like the NFL to have the Packers win the Super Bowl as soon as I stop actually rooting for them. Dan Campbell is definitely the best coach in the league.

NFC SOUTH
This is a boring way for this to shake out. Not sure what the Panthers’ next direction is, probably not a good one. The Falcons don’t have time on Matt Ryan’s career to build a roster around him, but Kyle Pitts is a good start. The Saints are a QB away again.

NFC EAST
Not a shock that the Cowboys won the division, nor that the Giants are ass. Somewhat of a shock that the Eagles made the playoffs and the Washingtons suck.

NFC WEST
Seems poetic somehow that every team other than the Seahawks made the postseason out of this division. Very impressive by Arizona to stumble all the way out of at least the 2 seed.
I don’t really know man.

Maybe just pessimism, but…

Well, for all of my griping over how useless a 18th week is, that was pretty epic. Ugh.

Well, here we are. The unprecedented 18th week. Or at least, the unprecedented week of 17th regular season games, since there were 18 weeks and 2 byes one year in I think the 80s. A lot of records will be set this weekend, but I absolutely hold that they don’t actually count — with one exception. As much of a tool as TJ Watt seems, when he breaks the sack record, it will have been in 16 games, since he missed one earlier this season. And that’s without mentioning that Strahan’s record is a sham in the first place. Bruce Smith Supremacy!
Meanwhile, the Broncos will be the first team to officially enter the offseason, as the only eliminated team playing Saturday, so bless up for that. Put us out of our misery. In the AFC there are a million playoff scenarios but they mostly depend on the Colts losing in Jacksonville — though that is something they’ve done the last 6 years straight. That’ll leave the 49ers to leave the door open or not for the Saints, and the Saints to walk through it or not, before the Chargers and Raiders play what is essentially an extra playoff game on Sunday Night. God peed, everyone.
